Gouken

Naniwa Gouken – Versatility and Sharpening Power

The Naniwa Gouken series is an excellent choice when you need a shaped and versatile sharpening stone that also works for specialty blades. These stones aren’t limited to straight knives – their thoughtful design makes them the perfect tool for sharpening curved, asymmetrical, and hard-to-reach edges.

Each Gouken stone is 20 mm thick and features two differently shaped edges: one is rounded and the other gently concave. This makes the stones ideal for grafting knives, pruning shears, garden tools, curved kitchen knives, straight razors, and small precision blades.

The series includes three grit levels, covering the entire sharpening process from start to finish:

  • Gouken 220 is a coarse and highly effective shaping stone. It quickly bites into dull or damaged edges and restores cutting performance with power.
  • Gouken 1000 is the all-purpose stone, perfect for maintaining both straight and curved blades. A favorite for garden tools and everyday sharpening.
  • Gouken 3000 is a fine finishing stone that leaves the edge smooth and nearly mirror-polished.

These are semi-soaking stones – soak them briefly before use and keep the surface wet during sharpening.

The Gouken series showcases Japanese precision and practicality. It’s an ideal solution for professionals and serious enthusiasts who value versatility and reliability.
