Now available: a double-sided strop! One side features a slightly matte 2.2 mm thick Italian brown leather, while the other side has a natural suede or the reverse side of the leather. There’s thick birch plywood in between, and this board offers countless usage possibilities.
"I had a true 'aha' moment when I started using a long strop board. You only truly understand the brilliance of a long strop once you’ve used it."
This type of leather is classified as "soft" firm (2/6 on the manufacturer's scale) and offers a pleasantly responsive feel at first touch. It even feels a bit tacky, which makes stropping more stable and precise.
I place the board at an angle, with one end lower on the table and the other in my hand. I move the knife back and forth a few dozen times, and the edge becomes razor-sharp.
You can enhance the effectiveness of the strop by using pastes. For example, with Luxor's red paste, you’ll achieve a grit of 2500–3000, which is nearly perfect for finishing the bevel and edge of a knife. Check the bottom video for instructions on how to use the paste.
