I made a batch of 10-inch (254 mm) strops for a special project. Now the remaining pieces are available for wider distribution.
This is a double-sided strop: one side features a slightly matte, 2.2 mm thick Italian brown leather, while the other side is the suede (flesh) side of the same leather. A thick birch plywood core sits in between. This board offers countless sharpening possibilities – the suede side works perfectly with Luxor red paste, for example.
The leather quality is rated 2/6 (soft) by the manufacturer. The first impression is very pleasant and offers excellent feedback.
My personal method is to place the board at an angle, with one end resting on the table and the other held by hand. I move the knife back and forth a few dozen times – and the edge turns razor-sharp.
We use M1-certified solvent-free glue in assembly, so these strops are completely odorless.
