Tanaka TOISHI WA #150 Michibiki is a traditional Japanese water whetstone from Kyoto. It is a soaking stone that requires approximately 10–15 minutes of soaking before use.
The #150 grit belongs to the extra coarse category and is intended for situations where the edge requires clear correction. At this level, material is removed quickly, edge geometry is corrected, and chips or heavily dulled edges can be repaired.
The WA (White Alumina) abrasive provides controlled and even cutting without excessive aggressiveness. Despite the low grit, the stone behaves predictably and holds its shape well, making the process stable and efficient even during heavy repair work.
The stone generates sufficient slurry to keep the sharpening process even. The feedback is clear and easy to read, which is especially important when preparing the edge before moving to the next grits.
#150 is not a finishing stone, but a repair stone. Once the edge has been corrected, the process continues with intermediate grits such as #320 or #400 before finer finishing.
Product dimensions may vary slightly:

NOTE!
This whetstone is a so-called soaking stone. It works best after 20-30 minutes of soaking. After sharpening, immediately wipe the stone clean with a towel. This will give the stone a clean look and start the drying process. Place the stone to dry in a position where it does not touch a solid surface. For example, place the stone on top of a pencil. Allow the stone to dry slowly without additional heating. Do not place the stone in direct sunlight. Do not allow the stone to freeze when wet. It takes more than 24 hours to dry. Store the stone protected from dents, e.g., in its box.
