Now available: a double-sided strop! One side features matte-finished, 2.2 mm thick Italian brown leather, and the other side is the suede (flesh) side of the same leather. A thick birch plywood core offers countless sharpening options.
"I had a real aha moment when I started using a long strop board. The beauty of a long strop is only understood through use."
This leather type is rated as “soft” (2/6 on the manufacturer’s scale), and the first impression offers excellent feedback. The slightly grippy feel makes stropping more stable and precise.
I usually set the board at an angle, with one end resting on the table and the other in hand. I move the knife back and forth a few dozen times – and the edge becomes razor-sharp.
You can enhance stropping with compounds. For example, LUXOR Polishing Paste Red, 6.5 micron gives a grit equivalent of 2500–3000, nearly perfect for finishing a scandi or v-bevel. See the bottom video for usage instructions.
