Ken-syou sharpening stones – also known as Kensho. Both are correct transliterations of the original Japanese name. Since the product packaging says KEN-SYOU, that is the name I use.
Ken-syou sharpening stones were created by master sharpener Masashi Fujiwara. These entirely handcrafted stones are made in small batches and have gained a reputation for producing an exceptional polish. They are a low-temperature fired resinoid stone series made with high-quality Japanese abrasives. In character and production, they are similar to Morihei stones but feature a slightly harder surface.
The Ken-syou stones in grits #3000–#10000 are hard-surfaced Splash and Go stones – requiring only a small amount of water. A short 2–3 minute soak may improve the feel. The #400 and #1000 stones are semi-soak types; soaking them for about 5 minutes before use yields the best results.
