A few years ago, I was looking for a blacksmith who makes a wide range of different types of knives from Aogami steel. I came across Shiro Kamo's production, and his "Black" series lived up to expectations.
The handmade Aogami #2 steel knives have a Kurouchi coating on the surface. In addition, the knives are heat-treated to 63-64 HRC.
This series, and especially the Gyoto, is, in my opinion, the most excellent Kurouchi coated knife I have seen. Of course, style is in the eye of the beholder, but I think more people will fall in love with this series.
Quality and finish are top of the notch. I was later joined by Shiro Kamo's SG2 series, which now famously represents the nobility of the knife world. For this series, Shiro Kamon, true to his style, created an exquisite dark Damascus pattern.
