Kuromaku

Shapton Kuromaku is a traditional Japanese quality whetstone that has gained a reputation, especially among hand tool sharpeners. In addition to knives, these whetstones can also be used to sharpen chisels and planer blades. Kuromaku is also known in the West as Shapton Professional Stone.

Shapton is at its best when it comes to speed. You will notice when sharpening the knife how different the feel is compared to other, softer stones. The stones in this series are also somewhat forgiving of blade misalignment.
