This stone is out of stock (NEW BATCH ARRIVES 2025/02), but we recommend the Shapton Rockstar 1000 as an alternative. This stone is superior in nearly every aspect due to its use of higher-quality abrasive material.
The Shapton Pro Kuromaku 1000 stone's actual grit is about 800, making it an exceptionally effective sharpening stone.
Remember to flatten this stone periodically.
Features:
NOTE!
"Splash-and-Go" stones do not tolerate prolonged storage in water. Use water only as much as the stone requires. Do not submerge the stones in a water basin. After sharpening, immediately wipe the stone clean with a towel. This keeps the stone looking tidy and initiates the drying process. Place the stone where it does not touch a solid surface. Let the stone dry horizontally, for example, by placing it over a pen. Allow the stone to dry slowly and peacefully without additional heating. Do not expose the stone directly to sunlight, and do not let the stone freeze while damp. The drying process takes more than a day. Store the stone protected from impacts, for example, in its box without the possible original foam padding. Please do not put the stone in a plastic bag while still damp.

My fist flattening stone. Bought this together with LUXOR POLISHING PASTE RED, 6.5 MICRON and SUEHIRO FLATTENING STONE #280. I was very pleased with overall parcel packaging - plastic only where necessary, so very easy to recycle. You buy this and feel that you have a quality product. Nice packaging with additional tips from Shapton manufacturers. I didn't want to invest much more in a bigger set of stones (rough, medium and fine) as I have some experience sharpening other blades. It is very grippy, but gentle on the edge. Seems very durable. It took me two or three sharpenings to work off chipped pieces in the knife blades. I'd say if you're patient, you can skip a rough stone right to this one and can settle with it as it does most of the sharpening - only then think if you really need a finer stone.

After doing some basic research I found out that this is one of the best sharpening stones for the price. Great value as they say. This is the first "proper" sharpening stone I've ever had, also chose it because it is suppose to be beginner friendly. Can't compare to any other stones. Has a nice case for both storage/drying as well as actual stability when using. Seems really well made, I'd even say beautiful. I will be learning to use it properly in the months and years to come. Getting a well renown Japanese sharpening / water stone for this price seems like a very good deal to me. Glad I found it at Hiomakivi. Thank you Sami Pirkkanen for the quick response via Email.

First stone for me, I use it to sharpen my KAI knifes, nakiri and santoku. Still new for the sharpening but still managed to get good edge. Beginners luck I guess. Stone will probably need in the future some tool to keep stone surface even so it will sharpen well in the future.
