Imanishi Seito Combo 1000/6000 – high-quality Japanese combination whetstone

This is the first 1000/6000 combination stone I approved for the Hiomakivi.fi selection. It is a genuine Japanese quality stone that stands out in terms of size, feedback, and overall performance.

The generous size (205 x 75 mm) and weight of over one kilogram make it stable and efficient to use. The larger surface area speeds up sharpening and makes angle control easier compared to many smaller combination stones.

#1000 – The foundation of sharpening
The 1000 grit removes material in a controlled manner and creates a consistent base for the edge. This is the most important stage of successful sharpening – without a solid foundation, there is no perfect finish.

#6000 – Refinement and cutting feel
The 6000 grit refines the edge cleanly and precisely. When used correctly, it delivers a smooth, refined cutting feel directly after the 1000 grit – without a separate finishing stone.

The stone provides exceptionally clear and informative feedback. You can precisely feel what happens between the blade and the stone – making learning easier and sharpening enjoyable even for more experienced users.

An anti-slip mat is included. For light use, it is sufficient, so a separate stone holder is not strictly necessary. For frequent sharpening, however, I recommend a holder for maximum stability.

NOTE!

This whetstone is a so-called semi-soaking stone. It works best after 5-10 minutes of soaking. Do not store the stone in a basin of water. After sharpening, immediately wipe the stone clean with a towel. This will give the stone a clean look and start the drying process. Place the stone to dry in a position where it does not touch a solid surface. For example, place the stone on top of a pencil. Allow the stone to dry slowly, without additional heating. Do not place the stone in direct sunlight. Do not allow the stone to freeze when wet. It takes more than 24 hours to dry. Store the stone protected from dents, for example, in its box.
